New G.F.

- Atlantida Suite - Boston November 2010
The dramatic center of the evening was soprano Alexandra Coku's interpretation of "Isabella's Dream," in which Queen Isabella recounts her ecstatic vision of riches and beckoning lands. Coku possesses a luminous stage presence, and her performance was beautiful in nearly every way, emotionally transparent and exquisitely musical. The Boston Musical Intelligence Frühbeck de Burgos Brings de Falla Rarity to BSO ...Then it was time for soprano soloist Alexandra Coku to take the stage and sing Isabella recounting her dream. This Coku did with great beauty of voice, gracious stage presence, and dramatic aplomb. She seemed very much at home with this aria of an ecstatic vision, with Frühbeck de Burgos and the BSO truly simpatico accompanists. Here at last one began to recognize some of de Falla’s most characteristic gifts of orchestration, melody and harmony. The music and Coku’s performance were, for me, the most memorable music of the Suite,... The Boston Globe ...The solo vocal writing throughout is much more successful, with last night’s highlight being soprano Alexandra Coku’s delivery of “Isabella’s Dream,’’ vaguely antique-sounding music rendered here with beauty and marvelous poise...

Cincinnati Opera – Florencia en el Amazonas Premiere: July 10, 2008 Opera News July, 2008 As the prima donna Florencia, Alexandra Coku was every bit the grand-opera diva, expansive of voice and commanding in manner. A particular highlight of the performance was the moment when Rosalba recognized Florencia: both singers poured out floods of gorgeous sound. Opera-L Archives Alexandra Coku gave a ravishing performance as the diva Florencia Grimaldi. Coku´s gorgeous crystalline voice gained in strength and clarity as Florencia emerged from her self-imposed disguise. She also happens to be a stunning woman and an engaging actress, moving with grace and assurance. Music in Cincinnati July, 2008 Heading the cast was American soprano Alexandra Coku as Florencia. Her arias in Act 1 and, transcendentally at the end of Act II, were filled with radiance and emotion.

Proserpina – Schwetzingen Festival

Daily Cougar 3.2.2004 HGO (Houston Grand Opera) roars on all cylinders, with big talents such Alexandra Coku and Chad Shelton taking the demanding lead roles of the lovers Tamino and Pamina. Especially captivating was the voice of the evening, Alexandra Coku, the American soprano whose tonal quality is something like a fatally potent aphrodisiac fort he ear.
Houston
Chronicle 2.2.2004 Soprano Alexandra Coku, so impressive in last season’s production of Handel’s Ariodante, sang Pamina with a gorgeous, supple voice. Her portrayal combined regal dignity and wrenching emotional distress about why Tamino seems so indifferent to their love as he single-mindedly seeks his destiny.

The title role of Agrippina was a tour de force for soprano Alexandra
Coku on opening night. She gave the most memorable performance I’ve
seen on any stage this summer, and she did so as part of one of the
best early opera casts Glimmerglass has ever assembled. Syracuse

always compelling, both dramatically and musically. Her impassioned

lissome vocal embellishments and exquisite coloraturas. Although not
in every scene, she instantly dominates the action upon entry.
